Dear Parents/Guardians: Welcome to an exciting year at Cortelyou Academy! My name is Ms. Simpson. I will be your child’s second grade teacher for the academic year 2008-2009. This journey through second grade promises to be a remarkable year of growth and development because your child will be engaged in a variety of new and exciting learning experiences. I am excited about literacy! Therefore I strongly encourage you to read to, and with your child on a daily basis. I also encourage you to involve your child in conversations as often as possible. Research has shown that daily conversations between parents and students provide great opportunities for children to express themselves freely and orally. We will also explore concepts in Math, Conventions of English Language, Science, Social and Cultural Studies, Spanish and Music at a higher level. I ask for your unfailing support. Your child can succeed with your active involvement at home and at school. Homework, assignments and projects are also important components of our curriculum. Kindly assist your child to complete and submit these in a timely fashion. Please ensure that you sign all completed homework, assignments and projects before they are submitted. In addition, I strongly believe in creating a classroom environment that emphasizes discipline. Please help your child to follow our group and school rules. I promise to do my best to help every child reach his/ her full potential. I will also do my best to develop a healthy relationship with every parent as we work together to extend learning beyond the classroom. I am very open for suggestions and ideas.
